Colin and Nick's Top 5 Movies of the Last Decade

So these are our favorite movies from 2000-2010, we were going to do in January but we are just so lazy.

                                        Nick's top 5

                                                 5. Gangs of New York
An awesome movie about the gang rivalries in New York in the 1860s. My 2nd favorite Scorsese movie (after Taxi Driver), Daniel Day-Lewis gives, I think, his best performance ever in this, completely overshadowing Leonardo DiCaprio.

                                                      4. Inception
My favorite film of 2010, this movie was extremely intense to watch in theaters, the effects were amazing throughout the movie but really its the whole concept of going in the dreams I found really interesting. The music was also pretty intense.

                                                      3. Gladiator
Amazing action, acting, music, story and cinematography. What would you want, to be entertained?

                                                  2. American Psycho
An amazing satire on the 80's ''Wall Street'' attitude, this movie is both hilarious and insane. Christian Bale gives the performance of a lifetime in an incredibly entertaining movie.

                                                     1. Donnie Darko
My favorite movie of all time, nevermind just the last decade, this movie encompasses the life of a teenager living a bizarre and fragile life. Getting the occasional visit from a giant bunny, he delves deeper into madness while retaining a seemingly normal teenage life. Jake Gyllenhaal's best performance , this film is a must-see.

                                                 Colin's top 5

                                                  5. This is England
An amazing and very underrated movie about the racist neo-nazi skinhead subculture of England. Stephen Graham (Snatch, Boardwalk Empire) gives one of the best performance of any movie I've ever seen. The music is also fantastic

                                                      4. City of God
A stunning movie about the ghettos and life in the City of God, the most insane thing about this movie is that it's all based on a true story. Violence, drugs, love and good music, this film could be about rock and roll but its about The violence and corruption of Brazil.

                                             3. No Country for Old Men
One of the Coen brothers' best movie, this film is intense from the start till the end. The cinematography is thrilling and beautiful throughout, the lack of soundtrack just adds to the intensity and reality of the movie. The three main actors all also give stunning performances.

                                               2. Let the Right One In
An extremely beautiful and disturbing movie about the relationship between two outcasts of society, a young bullied boy and a vampire who has kept her body for a very long time. The acting, cinematography and music are all done to perfection in this must-see movie.

                                                       1. Oldboy
A masterpiece beyond comparison, this movie kept me on the edge till the end. It's hard to choose a favorite among the Vengeance trilogy (sympathy for mr.vengeance and lady vengeance are the others) but this one has so many memorable scenes and moments that it's too hard not to put it at #1. The soundtrack is also one of the best I've ever heard.

Top 5 movies of the year by Colin and Nick

Colin's top 5

5:   The Social Network

One of the main reasons I liked the social network so much is because of how bad I thought a movie about facebook would be, especially with Justin Timberlake. Then the great reviews came in, so I went to see it and was pretty amazed, great dialogue, cinematography ( expected from david fincher ), acting ( even from justin timberlake) and even the plot kept me interested till the end

4:         Toy Story 3

Not much to say, Im not much of an animated movie fan but I always liked the first toy story as a kid and this one didnt disappoint.

3:    Inception

Though it wasnt perfect, I really enjoyed Inception because of how epic it felt. This is really what cinema should feel like. It was like seeing The Matrix for the first time in theaters except for a stronger cast yet weaker effects and story

2:    Shutter Island

I really loved this movie and view it as one of Scorsese's best for so many reasons, yes the twist was easy to guess but that was the point of the movie, everything came together so well. Great direction, great acting by the whole cast, even the minor characters were very well acted, great music and cinematography make this a must-watch.

1:     Black Swan

Ive always loved Aronofskys work since I watched requiem for a dream and Pi, so I was really anticipating this movie and to my surprise It was even better than I would have thought. Portman gives the performance of the year, the camera work is absolutely stunning and it has the best score of the year.

Almost made the list : True grit, 127 hours, Let me in, How to train your dragon, Kick-ass

Nick's top 5

5:       Machete

Machete, mystery, suspense, action, adventure and using someones guts as a rope. Need I say more?

4:   Shutter island

Enticing and engaging are words you can use to describe this movie, but i'll only use one, epic. This movie blew my mind on so many levels I was literally foaming at the mouth.

3:   Black Swan

This movie was fantastic on many levels, I dont think another movie has done a better job of showing the absolute best and worst in a single person as well as this one did.

2:     Social Network

The social Network was a great movie, from the first scene I was pulled into the movie and felt as if I were actually there. I dont know how much of the story was true but Jesse Eisenbergs performance makes it worth seeing in any case.

1:    Inception

Inception was definitely my favorite movie of the year for so many reasons. First of all the cast was really good, the music fit the movie perfectly and the special effects were insane, most of all because of how little of it was done by computer.

Almost made the list: True grit, daybreakers, the fighter, scott pilgrim

Inception review

Inception is definitely the best Christopher Nolan movie since The Dark Knight. Leonardo DiCaprio plays a guy who can invade other peoples dreams and steal shit. Joseph gordon-levitt wears suits, alan page is as useless as she is in every other one of her movies also michael caine has less screentime in this movie than the joker will have in the next batman movie. some people thought this movie was complex but it really wasnt, it was pretty much the prequel to the matrix. The dream machine in this movie is just like the prototype for what the machines will use to control people in The Matrix. anyway I give this movie 8,5 stars out of 10 for being very loud.
